Convergence: Artists, Museums, and Scholars of Islamic Art in Dialogue
An Academic Session at the 12th Annual Islamic Arts Festival – Hosted by the Islamic Arts Society
This academic session explores the multifaceted and evolving work of artists, museums, and scholars working in the field of Islamic art. Titled “Convergence,” the session serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue at the intersection of artistic practice, curatorial strategy, and academic research.
The session brings together voices from across disciplines to discuss approaches to preserving, interpreting, and innovating within Islamic artistic traditions. Speakers will reflect on topics such as the role of contemporary artists in engaging historical forms, the responsibilities of museums in representing Islamic heritage, and the contributions of scholarship to both public engagement and artistic creation.
Held as part of the Islamic Arts Society’s 12th Annual Islamic Arts Festival, this session invites attendees to consider how shared conversations among practitioners, institutions, and academics can enrich the appreciation and future of Islamic art.
The seminar will be led by Dr. Aimee Froom, Curator, Arts of the Islamic World, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, who will be joined by Dr. Lacy Murphy, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Scholar. Katherine G.
