Samia Nazir is a Houston based artist, with a heavy emphasis on Islamic Art and Arabic Calligraphy. She takes a Representational approach towards calligraphy, with the look and feel ranging from abstract, modern or surreal depending on the base of the paintings. The only script she has tried to emulate in the classical sense is the Kufic script; it is also the oldest of all the scripts, yet she finds it looks the most modern and minimalist of all.

Originally an Oil based painter, she started exploring Acrylics at the same time her interest in Arabic calligraphy piqued. Acrylics and its ability to morph into new textures have allowed Samia Nazir to restate scripts into a more exploratory and personal style.
