Storytelling 20251

The Art of Storytelling: From Ancestral Memory to the Mic. PERFORMANCE & WORKSHOP BY SARA FILALI

Join us for an engaging afternoon of creative storytelling.

This 90-minute immersive workshop blends performance, reflection, and practice. Drawing from her debut book, Hajeetek Majeetek: My Grandmother’s North African Folktales, Moroccan-American artist and writer Sara Filali takes audiences on a journey through the power of story, exploring how it shapes memory, preserves culture, and heals communities.

The workshop is designed for high school ages and up, but also for anyone who has ever felt the pull of a story, whether you are a writer, artist, activist, or simply someone who grew up listening to tales at home. Through a mix of live performance, personal reflection, and hands-on exercises, participants wil

  • Witness how stories can be acts of survival and legacy.
  • Discover the essential elements that lend a story its power and resonance.
  • Reflect on the narratives they’ve inherited and the truths they carry.
  • Explore how storytelling connects to identity, justice, and spirituality.
  • Share their voices in a supportive, communal space.

Grounded in both cultural/spiritual traditions of oral storytelling and contemporary creative practice, this workshop emphasizes that everyone has a story worth telling, and that telling it can be an act of both courage and connection.
